Montrose Back-to-School event marks another rockin' success!

Back-to-school season finally came to a close with the Montrose Campus hosting its 'Get Your Backpack On' Back-to-School Bash on Aug. 25. This event was the third and final of a series (each put on by one of our three campuses) and proved that last is certainly not least!

Montrose mixed it up with a snow-cone truck and live musical performances that kept the crowd moving!

Washington Avenue locales Satori Salon and  Hughes Hangar were generous benefactors at the event, providing haircuts and hot lunches (respectively). A BIG thanks goes out to the owner of both, Juan Cao, as well as to Jeniffer Huff, for helping make the day a huge success!

Legacy staff (along with our AWESOME volunteers) distributed 500 supply-stuffed backpacks (courtesy of GE!) and provided 137 immunizations and 217 health screenings. Through our partnership with the Houston Food Bank, we also gave out 6,200 pounds of bread and fresh produce and 162 cases of dried fruit.

It was a whirlwind of a season, but Legacy Community Health Services is proud to have helped hundreds of families in the Houston area head back to school in stride! And we couldn't have done it without our partners (thanks, GE and HFB!) and our wonderful team of volunteers (you guys are the best!).

Until next time... Get your noses to the grindstone, and keep that schoolhouse rockin'!

(And, of course, don't forget to like us on Facebook to stay in-the-know about all of Legacy's events and offers!)

Lyons Avenue Campus vistors lined the block at our Aug.18th Back-to-School event!

The Lyons Avenue Campus marked another big success for our "Get Your Backpack On" Back-to-School Bashes, with a line of eager visitors that wrapped around the building.

Legacy staff and volunteers gave out nearly 500 supply-stuffed backpacks (courtesy of GE) and provided150 immunizations, in addition to 130 blood pressure and 112 glucose screenings. In conjunction with the Houston Food Bank, we also distributed 9,500 pounds of fresh veggies and 170 cases of canned goods.

Besides partaking in the giveaways, visitors enjoyed food, rides, moonwalks, games and even a visit from Nick Jr. characters Dora and Diego.

We'd like to thank all of our awesome volunteers and sponsors, as well as the wonderful staff at the Legacy Community Health Services Lyons Avenue Campus for all of their hard work and commitment in making this event a success.
